2nd Primary school of Pyrgos Greece

  • Our school is located in Pyrgos Ileias, 100kms away from Patra's city and 20kms away from Ancient Olympia (the birthplace of the Olympic Games). It is a friendly, peaceful town of about 30.000 citizens. Our city is near the sea (about 10kms away) and very closes to the Alfeios, the mythological river. The area has fields of olive trees, vineyards, vegetables and fruits. Our city is, mostly, famous for the International Olympic Film Festival for young people that is organized every year. Additionally the port of Katakolo, 10kms away from Pyrgos, is not only a popular destination for Cruise ships but also known for the fresh fish restaurants and its traditional houses.

Our school has about 300 students between the ages of  7 to 12 years old and is located to the centre of the town. The staff includes 25 teachers of different fields. They use innovative educational methods and mostly they have, after a long teaching career, a great experience in art, in long life learning, in museum educational programs and in environmental issues. The 2nd Primary school of Pyrgos has implemented with great success a lot of different kinds of educational projects about environment, art, museology, literature and healthy life style.

Greece - day 1

On the first day, our guests visited our school, to meet the Headmaster and our fellow-teachers and students. There, students took part in a workshop ,completing a questionnaire on healthy diet and exercise focusing on every-day habits. Then we had a short walk to the Town Hall, getting information about the history of the town and the main sights. At the Town Hall, we all met the Mayor, had a reception there with traditional dances, performed by our 6th grade students, guests were given gifts concerning the history of the district and then we made a presentation of the participants’s chools. Finally, we had a workshop on healthy food pyramid, along with a contest for the quickest team. After that, we visited the Archeological Museum of the town, listening to useful information, presented by our students.
